Optimize your swim training with adding a threshold workout per week, based on YOUR swim fitness. It will make wonders with your swimming since the body will get used to the pace and after eight weeks of training at your CSS, you are ready to take the next step. With this type of training you don't have to guess, swim faster nor slower than you should. It's a tough pace, but doable and has nothing to do with lactate. The pace will improve your lactate threshold speed, which will result in speed increases in your distance swimming.

 

This training is NOT about all out. You can look forward to a slightly slower swimming (around 7/10 in effort) but with less rest between the distances.

 

Every person has an unique threshould pace which is the same as the swim fitness level right now. The time can be messured by doing a CSS-test (Critical Swim Speed) where you do 400 m time trial, rest for 6-8 minutes and then 200 time trial. Take the time for 400 metres minus the time for 200 metres and divided it by 2. There you have it and is now a guide for better and faster swimming.
